Amber Countryman – Chalishia Alvarez is no stranger to Wellington. She was born at St. Luke’s Hospital as Chalishia Hearlson, but moved to Orange, Calif. when she was ten years old.

Last month, she moved back to Wellington with her husband, Eddie Alvarez, and two daughters, Ashley, age 20, and Lucinda, age 11. Ashley is a college student and Lucinda will be attending Wellington Middle School.

Alvarez earned a Bachelor of Science degree in child and adolescent development from California State University Fullerton and a multiple subject credential in education from Vanguard University.

Prior to the Wellington Public Library, she worked for the Orange County Public Library in Tustin, Calif. for 2 ½ years. For 17 years prior to that, she worked in special education for the local California school districts.

Alvarez currently faces challenges of not being able to have programs and meet the families due to the COVID-19 health pandemic. She has several ideas that will be implemented once programs can be held safely.

Alvarez looks forward to getting to know the children in the community and starting some new programs for the children’s library as soon as it is safe to do so.
